One morning the mother woke up very early. She washed her face. After that, she turned to us and said as soon as we finish breakfast that we would go reap lunch.

I was very surprised: “How can we reap lunch?” She got dressed. Mother wore a rain jacket and so we did. She took a pair of gloves and bags, she passed the gloves to us and we wore them “let’s go.”  We walked while the rain was pouring.

We came to a meadow and stayed there. Along the edge of the meadow, we found a plant that looked weird to me at first glance. Mother told us to wear the gloves so we wore them. She explained that the plant nettles was very healthy. She pleated it was from Europe. And today it was located in Asia, one part of Africa, New Zealand, and the northern part of America.

I remembered she told us there were 6 types of Nettles.  It is a herbaceous perennial plant that can reach a height of 1-2 meters during the year. If it overgrows, it cannot be eaten. We picked only the tops and young nettles while we did not touch the elder ones. Our mother told us that it is rich in vitamins A and C, iron, calcium and magnesium. When we gathered enough we headed home.

Preparation of Nettles:

Mather washed the tops of the nettles well and let the chemicals come out of the water.  She put water to boil we added nettles and in another cooking pot, we chopped red onions. We fried it slowly and during that time we strained the nettles that we added to the sickle with the onion. “They don’t need to be cooked for a long time, add more flour if there is a larger amount,” the mother spoke. During that time, she also baked homemade bread. And we peeled the potatoes and cooked them in salted water and had lunch. It was a very great day to spend quality time with my mother. I recommend you who have a mother and a clean meadow to try the same thing that we have repeated several times since that day. That way you’ll rest and eat something natural and healthy.

Interesting facts:

In the UK there is an annual Cup nettle eating, where people compete to eat as many nettles leave as possible! Participants get 60cm (24 inches) of stems from which they remove leaves and eat. Of course, the winner is the one who eats the most leaves.

Today we learned that we have many benefits from nettles, more about nettles in following posts.
